A River Runs Through It

word on the street is that the farmer's market in our town is pretty awesome. apparently you can buy cheap starters for your garden which is perfecet since we're nearing the end of planting season and want to try out our green thumbs. we watched how the sun hit our backyard and chose the best place for our first little garden. unfortunately we didn't make it to the market last sat and had to push our plans back a week.

thank goodness!

after our first big rainstorm we discovered that our "perfect" little plot of ground was not as perfect as we thought {note the arrows above}. turns out we get a river back there when ever it rains.

i guess we'll be moving our garden plans to higher ground.

what are YOUR favorite things to grow in a garden?

This is our first year to have a real garden and so far we have had the best luck with cucumbers and lettuce. We have also grown some peas, beans and carrots, and our tomato plants look great but are yet to produce any tomatoes (I'm not complaining!)

My favorite thing from the garden is definetly corn, but unfortunately we aren't growing any since it takes up so much room. Good luck with your garden, it is really fun, especially once the garden starts producing!

I thought that was your driveway, not all water! That's crazy!!! I haven't had a garden yet, I still keep thinking I'll do it. But I really want peppers in my garden.

we are growing garlic, onions, strawberries, and beets in pots and corn, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, and green bell peppers in raised beds. Garlic, onions, corn, and tomatoes have done well for us. We had 3 rows of corn about 6 feet long and they did fabulous! Some of the strawberries come out small and the carrots and tomatoes seem kind of stunted, but that could be the heat getting to them. Good luck! It's so much fun!
