Desitin vs. Butt Paste or Neither?

we are in desperate need of advice! what secrets do you have in dealing with diaper rash? not just regular, pink diaper rash. i am talking about going on two weeks, red, inflamed and swollen, chapped and starting to bleed, screaming, unconsolable child, diaper rash. a couple times it has started to heal and get better but poor madison has had the runs off and on this whole time which makes it come back in a flash. we have gone through numerous tubes of Balmex and Desitin, we've tried Butt Paste, steroid cream, anti-fungal cream, vaseline, petroleum jelly, and a mystery ointment recommended by a NICU nurse. my last resort is calling our pediatrician tomorrow.

so this is where YOU come in. please let me know if you have any advice for poor little madison and her parents who are finally at a loss about how to kick this nasty little diaper rash. i wish i had thought of this sooner!

Hey...my doc gave me stuff called Pink Swizzle when Kirra had one that sounds just like that! I think it is special for when they skin actually peels off...because the doc wasn't going to give me that...but...then he saw that her top layer of skin was coming off so he prescribed it for her! Anyway...long story short...it works wonders! About photos...I am charging $40 right now...which includes the sitting fee and about 10 edited photos. I will also sign over the copyright so that you can print them wherever you want. And...I will give you the cd of all the pictures that I take. Give me a call...I am excited. We should definitely be able to do some for you! My number is 435-590-5470. Sorry this is like the longest comment EVER!

Well, sounds like that swizzle stuff works well. When Josh has a period of poopyness, I use desitin with baby powder to keep him more dry, and we let him go with out a diaper while we get him dressed, etc. Good luck, it's so sad when they're hurting...

Doctor Dowse percribed pink swizzle for us too. They mix it in the pharmacy. He also had us soak her in the tub for 15 mintues as well. He said that the skin creates a layer of something that needs to be soaked off first. It helped. Good Luck.

Yeah, Isabel suffered from a similar one as well. We stuck with Desitin, but also made sure not to let her wear onesies...they were pushing her diaper up onto her skin more and making it rub more often. so we just did t-shirts or didn't snap the onesies and that let it "breathe" a little bit more and heal up. Good luck! It's just so sad to see them hurting like that!

i've heard that butt paste works. my kids so far haven't had diaper rash too bad. it also sounds like this swizzle works wonders as well so i would try that and see what happens. hope she starts feeling better and you are able to get rid of the diaper rash!

If it's bleeding, it may be a yeast rash. Try using Lotramin AF (it's an athlete's foot med) and that should clear it right up. We had many a rash like that with Brooklyn when she was a baby. Also, use wet paper towels instead of wipes. Most baby wipes have alcohol in them, which will make the open wounds sting like heck. Good luck!

Butt Paste is great if you get it for free as we did from:

nappy rash

It's brilliant stuff and most importantly it works :)

Hi! Well I imagine by now that you may have solved this issue, but I was Googling about info on diaper rash creams and came across your blog. I am an independent consultant for Arbonne International and we have a very good herbal diaper rash cream that has worked on skin care problems that even dermatologists could not fix. I would be happy to send you a free sample, or you can find a consultant near you. my website is www.tinatesta.myarbonne. I am having twin boys in January, and my friends have been telling me all about what I need and do not need, etc etc...so Now I am researching butt creams...now that I am done researching cribs and strollers LOL.... even though I sell diaper rash cream I realize that all baby's bottoms have different needs. I have friends that swear by Desitin and won't even think about Arbonne, but I also know people who will only use Arbonne. You just never know what's going to work! I also have a baby web site...www.robertstwinbuns.aboutmybaby.com
